We have an amazing selection of villas to rent in Sicily!
“To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything.”

Imagine walking to the scent of lemon blossoms drifting through open shutters and the rhythmic, distant hum of the Mediterranean. Sicily is an island of vivid, sun-drenched contrasts - where ancient Greek ruins stand silent against the backdrop of smoking volcanic peaks and emerald-green coves.

At Italian Breaks, we believe your accommodation should be as characterful as the island itself. Our Sicily villa rentals are hand-picked retreats designed to help you immerse yourself in the authentic rhythm of Sicilian life. With over 30 years of heritage, our founder Cristina Swift personally selects every property, ensuring each one meets our rigorous standards for local charm and modern comfort.

About Sicily

Best Time To Visit Sicily

The ideal window to explore the island is from March to October, when bright, Mediterranean sunlight highlights Sicily’s natural wonders - from the rugged mountains and rolling citrus groves to its dramatic coastline and crystal-clear seas. This season is perfect for those seeking Sicily villa rentals that make the most of outdoor living.

During these months, the Mediterranean Sea, with its emerald-green archipelagos - The Aeolians, Egadi, and Pelagie Islands, plus the remote beauty of Pantelleria and Ustica - offers remarkable scenery and deep cultural immersion. The island's majestic volcanoes and diverse landscapes add to its allure, making it the premier time to secure villas in Sicily by the sea for an unforgettable escape.

Things to Do in Sicily

There is truly no place quite like Sicily. With its sun-baked climate, a sicily villa holiday can be enjoyed year-round, with each season offering its own distinctive, seductive charm. If you are looking to soak up a little culture on your summer break, you’ll find that the island is a living museum of art, mythical history, and breathtaking vistas .

You can explore a fascinating past with a day trip to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, browse the stylish, sun-drenched boutiques of Taormina, or simply admire the horizon from the sandy shores of Cefalu Beach. These are just a few of the iconic experiences awaiting you before you retreat to the total privacy of one of our holiday villas in Sicily with a private pool.

What Do You Recommend Doing in the Area?

There is an endless wealth of discovery waiting for you beyond the gates of your private villa in Sicily. From hidden, crystal-clear coves to the vibrant energy of local harvests, here are our hand-picked recommendations for making the most of your next Sicily villa holiday.

Breathtaking Beaches

Calamosche

This secluded beach features a natural swimming pool with calm, translucent waters that are perfect for families and couples alike. Located adjacent to the Eloro nature reserve, it is an idyllic spot for sunbathing in peace.

Isola Dei Conigli (Rabbit Island)

Often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, this sanctuary offers fine white sand and deep blue waters framed by rugged, untouched scenery. It is a "must-visit" for anyone staying in our luxury villas in Sicily who appreciates natural coastal beauty.

Local Festivals

Almond Blossom Festival (February)

If you are visiting in the early spring, head to Agrigento to see the almond trees in full, fragrant bloom. The festival is a sensory delight of parades, traditional dance, and fireworks.

Carnival

Taking place 40 days before Easter, this is Sicily’s answer to Mardi Gras. Expect a whirlwind of elaborate floats, colourful costumes, and street performances that take over towns across the island.

Sagra del Vino (Wine Festival)

A highlight for any wine-lover visiting in October, this festival in Montevago celebrates the autumn grape harvest. It is a wonderful opportunity to sample premier local bottles and party alongside the locals.

Ancient Wonders & Culture

Valley of the Temples

This UNESCO World Heritage site near Agrigento is one of the world's most magnificent examples of ancient Greek architecture. Walking through these ruins at sunset is a highlight of many villas in Sicily for rent itineraries.

Greek Tragedies in Syracuse

During May and June, you can witness ancient stories brought to life in the historic Greek Amphitheatre. The atmosphere of the open-air theatre provides a truly authentic connection to Sicily’s mythical past.

Taormina Film Fest

Held in June at the Greco-Roman Amphitheatre, this prestigious event allows you to watch independent films and previews with a backdrop overlooking the majestic Mt. Etna.

Volcanic Adventures

Mt Etna

As one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Etna is a dominating and awe-inspiring presence on the island. You can view its beauty from the comfort of a private villa in Sicily or hire a guide to hike the lunar landscapes of its upper craters.

Stramboli

For those seeking further adventure, the volcano at Stromboli offers incredible hiking opportunities. We highly recommend hiring a professional guide to safely experience the raw power of this "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean".

Frequently Asked Questions

Renting a private home in Italy’s most diverse region comes with unique considerations, from choosing the right coastline to navigating local markets. Our founder, Cristina Swift, has spent over 30 years hand-picking these properties, ensuring they offer more than just a place to sleep - they offer a true Sicilian lifestyle. Below, we have answered the most common questions to help you plan your journey with confidence, drawing on our deep local heritage and on-the-ground expertise .

The best area depends on your rhythm. For iconic views and glamorous boutiques, Taormina and the East Coast are unparalleled. If you prefer quiet, sun-bleached landscapes and Baroque architecture, the Val di Noto in the southeast is a sanctuary. For the most authentic food culture and rugged coastal reserves, we recommend the Palermo and Scopello regions in the northwest.

While some of our villas are within walking distance of villages, we highly recommend a car to truly explore Sicily’s hidden coves, volcanic vineyards, and historic sites. Public transport is available between major cities like Palermo and Catania, but a private vehicle allows you the freedom to discover the island’s rural heart at your own pace.

Sicily is served by two main international hubs: Catania (CTA) on the east coast and Palermo (PMO) in the west. If you are staying in Taormina or Syracuse, Catania is your best option. For villas near Scopello or Cefalù, Palermo offers the most convenient access.

Sicily is incredibly welcoming to families. Many of our villas in Sicily with pools feature large, enclosed gardens and are located near child-friendly beaches like Calamosche. The island’s interactive history - from the volcanoes to the puppet theatres - keeps children of all ages engaged.

For sun-seekers, July and August offer the classic Mediterranean heat. However, the sweet spot for many travellers is May, June, or September, when the weather is warm enough for swimming in your private pool but mild enough for exploring archaeological sites like the Valley of the Temples.

Sicily enjoys a Mediterranean climate that is significantly milder than the UK, though it has distinct seasonal variations.

During the summer months of June through August, the weather is hot and sunny with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, which is perfect for enjoying our villas in Sicily with pools. The shoulder seasons of April to May and September to October remain warm and pleasant, making this an ideal time for both swimming and exploring the Valley of the Temples without the peak summer heat. In contrast, the winter period from November to March is mild but cooler, with temperatures typically resting in the mid-teens.

Choosing the perfect Sicily villa starts with deciding on your preferred landscape: a seafront escape for direct beach access or a countryside retreat for ultimate privacy among olive groves and vineyards. Consider your group’s needs - families often prioritise villas with gated pools and shallow areas, while couples may prefer a secluded boutique stay near a quiet village.

At Italian Breaks, every property is handpicked, who uses over 30 years of experience to ensure each home offers the right balance of authentic charm and modern amenities.

While Italian is the primary language in Sicily, English is widely spoken in major tourist hubs like Taormina, Cefalu, and Palermo. In smaller, rural villages or local markets, English may be less common. However, Sicilians are famous for their warm hospitality and expressive gestures.
