If you want to experience the colours of fall, make your way to Lucca between October and November but keep in mind that fall is often the rainy season. Visit in September if you want to catch the historic Luminaria di Santa Croce di Lucca festival, and avoid winter if you don’t like cold temperatures.

Visitors can easily reach Lucca by car or public transportation. If you rent a car, Lucca can be reached by travelling along A11 highway from both northern and southern Tuscany. The easiest way to travel to Lucca is by train. The train runs frequently and is connected to Florence and Pisa, making it easy to stop off in Lucca for a day trip or an overnight stay. Trains run to Lucca frequently, and the airport is connected as well in case you fly in. Visitors can easily take the bus to Lucca but it takes slightly longer than the train.
